When in Rome...Color Block!

When in Rome...Color Block!

Remember playing with color blocks when you were a kid? Stacking one color  block on top of another while building a colorful pyramid castle.

Well it is time again to let your imagination run colorful with the new 2011 Spring trend, "color blocking."

Since Gucci introduced their new Spring collection, celebrities have been embracing the 80's inspired style. I am a huge fan of modern vintage inspired clothing so I am particularly excited about this one.

Even Joan Rivers on Fashion Police (E channel) proclaimed this look as "Gotta Have it."

The idea is to mix two to three  different solid bright colors together.

Do not be afraid to incorporate patterns as well.

Here is a very inexpensive and easy to "color block" as well as add some style, flair and elegance to your outfit.

I have picked up these bright colorful silky scarfs at TJ Max for $15 each!

The blue one is Nicolle Miller and the Green is Cynthia Rowely.

Just throw it over a simple top or blazer to dress it up and add style.

You can even add a cool vintage broach (as seen in the pic w/scarf alone) to the side where the scarf would tie for additional flare.

Scarfs are also great because they are so versatile and can be worn in many ways.
Here is another example.

I look forward to seeing this trend (color blocking) this Spring/Summer. I think it is fun, girly and can be worn so many ways. If you choose to use a bright colorful scarf with any of your outfits, you will find that it can go a long way.

Let me know what you think? Love it or Hate it? Would you wear this look this Spring? What do you think of the scarf idea? Would love to hear your thought.

Thank you for stopping by :)

When in Rome...do the Peacock, SUBTLY!

When in Rome...do the Peacock, SUBTLY!

According to the urban dictionary the word peacocking refers to when a male dresses for attention. His outfit would typically consist of vibrant colors and/or different textures, delivering a unique look that stands out. Just like peacocks using their features to get a mate.

I am a complete advocate when it comes to men wearing color. Men can have a cool style of their own with color and texture without overdoing it. However, male or female, unless you are a world recognized performer there is no reason for one to dress like a Real peacock!

Here are examples of what NOT to wear:

Especially hospital booties! This is a NO, NO!

After some research I decided to adopt these Gucci Men's High-Top Sneakers for A-Glo' Boutique. Though, I prefer a man to dress a little more east cost. Fitted jeans and button down shirts along with a great blazer, I can appreciate the style of a cool laid back bad boy.

Here are several reasons why I really like these:

Reason numero uno: They come in fives different colors! Purple, Hunter Green, Cobalt (AKA blue above), Lime Green and Turquoise. All the colors can be worn Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. They are subtle enough to not look like, "Hey look at that guy," but, cool enough to be like, "Hey check out his cool kicks."

Reason number two: They are well made designer footwear. Most people I know do not mind spending a little more for a great quality shoe. Just like the saying goes, "The shoes make the man."

Number three: Compared to regular retail of these shoes ($395) here we have them for only $249.

In this picture of David Beckham, even though you cannot see his full outfit. The purple Gucci High-Tops would look great here.

And here is a great use of a color sneaker :)

And last: I really like that it is such a simple shoe really. It is not over powered and completely covered in the brand logo. It has the Gucci emblem on the side and in the front of the sole it spells out the brand. Therefore, they are a great and subtle way to do the peacock.

If you are interested in a pair of your own, please email me at boutiqueaglo@gmail.com and list the size and color you desire.

Once again, thank you for reading my post and I look forward to your comments!

When in Rome....wear SOCKS!

Welcome to my blog, my name is Olga and after a recent fashion business venture (A-Glo' Boutique) and my love for fashion I have decided to start my own fashion blog. I want to say thank you for taking the time to read my blog posts. You will uncover that my posts are based on different and unique fashion discoveries of mine. Being new to business (fashion), I am learning a lot and all the research is exciting. Sooo... I've decided to share the finds, likes and dislikes with friends and readers as I embark on this journey. Hope you enjoy!

When in Rome....wear SOCKS!

I have been noticing this little 'trend' among some celebrities and in fashion ads. It appears that ankle socks with heels are  making a comeback or a debut. At first glance  I couldn't help but think, "bedroom foreplay," but, then after some more careful consideration I started to warm up to the look.

There are an infinite amount of styles and colors available to accessorize any outfit. From ruffles to lace to corset style laces! White tends to be the most popular "color." Though I am keeping an eye out for a pair of black lace ones with ruffles :)

Here you see Rihanna looking fabulous in her simple white ankle socks. Not to mention I am in love with that dress!

Here are some pros and cons I found with this new fad:

Pros:

Great Spring accessory! Seattle in Spring, where nylons tend to be a little out of session and bare legs are little to early to be in season, a pair of socks could be just the thing to show some leg, a mini skirt and heels!

When in Rome...be different! Take a little risk. After countless conversations with friends of how un-fashion forward Seattleites tend to be. Its great to bring a little attitude and creativity to spice up your style.

Inexpensive! They are cheap ladies! You can find a pair to fit your style anywhere between $5-15!

I decided to try a pair of my own after I found these really adorable and versatile white lace and lace up socks that could even be worn with jeans/pants for only $10!

You can find them sold by A-Glo' Boutique. Just ask me for details and how you can have a pair of your own!

Cons:

Only When in Rome! They are not appropriate for an office or formal work environment. I find this look to be more of a fun out on the town or a day of shopping with girlfriends.

Confidence is Key! As I have always lived with the notion that if you act like its great, people will think its great! In my opinion this is NOT a subtle look. Some people will probably think, "Wow she has some balls to pull that off!" So get some fashion balls!

When in Rome...don't wear white after labor day? Because white seems to be the popular 'color' it is easy to get them dirty! And if you live in Seattle, rain can stain! There will be nothing cute about a big smudge on your white fashion socks. So if you are uncertain of the weather save your pearly whites for another day!

On the contrary: Because they are affordable, grab a couple pairs, one being in a darker color if you just cant wait to strut your stuff!

Overall I am fan. I think they are cute, fun and sexy! I am huge on accessories and these will definitely be making an appearance in my wardrobe.

If you like the idea, but are not ready to take the risk just yet...try knee high socks.
As you can see from this ad they look great (in my opinion), will keep you warm on those cooler days, more of a practical "color" (black) and not as visually aggressive:)

I would love to know what you guys think? Love it or hate it?
Would you sport some ankle socks? If you have a pair would love to hear your story!
